For Immediate Hire: MSW Counselor, 0.8 FTE
Starting July 1, 2022
Position Summary: The Master of Social Worker (MSW) will provide support and counseling for men and women who are coming out of incarceration in prison and jail and returning to Sacramento. These services include conducting group sessions on recovery and mental health, as well as one-on-one counseling. Responsibilities include conducting client intake assessments, evaluating clients' needs, listening to clients' concerns, documenting progress, and maintaining client notes. One MSW will be hired to work as part of a small staff of seven. Strong preference given to those with lived experience of incarceration and/or addiction recovery.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide one-on-one counseling services
• Plan, coordinate, manage, and implement support plans for clients
• Monitor and evaluate clients’ progress and modify treatment plans accordingly
• Conduct groups with clients on recovery, mental health, parenting, etc.
• Refer clients to community services
• Maintain accurate, confidential records and reports
• Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
• MSW degree
• Experience preferred with client assessment and case management
• Experience preferred working with the justice-involved, homeless, mentally ill, and/or substance abuse population or other relevant social service work
• Strong preference given to those with lived experience of incarceration and/or addiction recovery
• Combination of education and experience will be considered
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Appropriate, professional boundaries
• Computer skills with proficiency in MS Office
• Strong verbal communications skills
• Strong organizational skills and time management
• Understanding of and compassion for the population we serve and issues related to incarceration, poverty, mental health, and addiction
• Strong ability to counsel and mentor, both in groups and one-on-one
• Capable of working independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines

HOURS AND COMPENSATIONS
0.8 FTE (32 hours per week with flexibility in scheduling hours)
$33.65 per hour / $56,000 annually
