The Restorative Justice School Project, formerly named Pen Pal Jr. Project was launched in 2016, and gets under way this year again and invites students to participate, please register.
This Project brings messages of hope to prisoners in San Francisco County Jails from Public, Catholic school and faith formation students.
In 2017 and 2018 we had schools participate locally from home and from across the state and the country visit the Archdiocese of San Francisco to participate in our programs. To mention a few:
· St Elizabeth Ann Seton High School, Las Vegas, Nevada
· Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Parish, Santa Clarita, CA
· St Francis High School, Sacramento, CA
· San Juan Diego Catholic Parish, Portland, Oregon
· Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Lake Oswego, Oregon
· Notre Dame Preparatory High School, Scottsdale, Arizona
· Holy Spirit Parish - Kennewick, Washington
The Restorative Justice School Project helps young people “reach out to the imprisoned” as a corporal work of mercy, and helps students learn the concept and practice of restorative justice. The prisoners and students remain anonymous to one another; this connection is made possible through the archdiocesan Restorative Justice Ministry, which collects and delivers the messages. Hundreds of locally incarcerated men and women have received handmade cards and messages of hope in the five years.
