In Schools

Teen

When discipline in school is centered on punishment, expulsions and suspensions increase. The relationships between student and teacher, student and peers, student and family are damaged. Punishment does not give students the tools they need to deal with life’s challenges now or in the future. Restorative justice in schools:

  • Increases cooperation, mutual respect, and responsibility
  • Creates a classroom environment where learning is possible
  • Breaks the school-to-prison pipeline that starts with suspensions and ends in juvenile hall or jail
